Resting in Presence: A Path to Happiness and Success

Sep 11, 2023

In the chaos of our modern lives, it's all too easy to lose sight of ourselves, our true essence, and the profound field of consciousness that exists within us – our Presence. The constant barrage of external stimuli and internal mental chatter can often drown out the tranquility and wisdom that reside within us. In this blog post, we will explore the journey of reconnecting with our own consciousness and Presence, the challenges it presents, and the transformative rewards it offers.

Discovering Your Inner Presence

Our daily lives are filled with visual and mental distractions, pulling us in countless directions. The sheer volume of external activities and internal thoughts can make it challenging to feel connected to our own Presence. But like any skill, recognizing and experiencing Presence requires practice.

When you first connect with your own Presence, it might feel unfamiliar, almost like a mild transformational shock. This is your consciousness, your true self, waiting to be rediscovered. The ultimate goal is to rest in this field of consciousness and presence as you go about your day.

As described by Rupert Spring, imagine your life experiences as a movie playing on a screen. While the scenes in the movie constantly change, the screen – your Presence – remains unchanged and unharmed. It's a powerful realization that can bring calmness, clarity, and pure joy, even in the midst of life's hectic activities.

The Transformative Power of Presence

Once you learn to reside in Presence, everything changes. The ups and downs of life become less dramatic and less disturbing. You develop a deep knowing that you can handle whatever comes your way. It's a sense of calm and empowerment that infuses even the most ordinary activities with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

In the world of sports, this inner state is known as "the zone." In this state, the boundaries between your inner self and the outer world blur, and there is a seamless flow of activity without a sense of being the doer. It's an exhilarating feeling that's worth mastering in all aspects of our lives.

The Challenge of Trusting Presence

Ironically, recognizing Presence may be the easy part, but trusting it can be a greater challenge. Our culture bombards us with constant distractions, perpetuates the idea of never having enough, and often leads us away from our authentic selves. Learning to trust that you, or Presence, are enough in a world that constantly demands more can be daunting.

However, trusting Presence is the key to unlocking happiness and success. When you learn to trust your authentic self, your life takes on a new sense of simplicity and purpose. It becomes a journey of living from who you really are – Presence.

In a world filled with noise and distractions, the journey of rediscovering and trusting your own Presence is a path to inner peace, boundless joy, and unwavering confidence. It's a journey that requires practice, intention, and mindfulness. As you learn to rest in Presence, you'll find that life's challenges become opportunities, and your true self shines brighter than ever before. Embrace your Presence, trust it, and watch as your life transforms into a masterpiece of authenticity, simplicity, and purpose.

I wrote a book, Profit with Presence: The 12 Pillars of Mindful Leadership, which goes in to further detail about this topic and more.

Although the world is currently abuzz with the term “mindfulness,” some believe mindfulness is a fringe activity to be practiced before or after the workday, if at all. Too few business professionals take the time needed to be present and aware throughout the workday, which is counterproductive. Mindfulness is not only a path to personal success, but a sound business strategy.

My hope is to positively impact the world through infusing more mindfulness into business -- and it starts with each of us individually. Together, we can create a future where mindfulness is deeply embedded in our work culture, leading to greater well-being, productivity, and meaningful success for all.
